Kurt Gamlin
Head Pastor
After graduating from Illinois State University with a degree in chemistry and a minor in history, Pastor Kurt Gamlin followed a call from God to attend Asbury Theological Seminary, focusing on family studies and pastoral ministry. Over his 43 years of ministry, he has served seven churches, primarily in the northwestern Chicago suburbs. In Woodstock, Pastor Kurt helped establish a day shelter for the unhoused that became a city-supported initiative. Now in his sixth year at First United Methodist Church of McHenry, he has guided the church through challenges like COVID-19, enhancing its online presence and strengthening its community outreach. Pastor Kurt’s preaching and leadership emphasize connecting with God, supporting one another, and making life better for all. Married to Betsy for over 40 years, they have three children, eleven grandchildren, and a beloved Vizsla, Asher, who often accompanies him at church.
Lynn Schnelker
Praise Team Director
Lynn has spent her life singing in church. She finds special joy in helping others find their voices, and welcomes all newcomers to the Praise Team. A retired educator, Lynn enjoys spending time with her grandkids and traveling, in addition to being a “church lady."
Gina Swinney
Lay Leader & Worship Team Chair
Gina has been a member of McHenry First United Methodist Church since 1980. In her time at the church she has served on many committees and participated in many music/theatre opportunities. She currently serves as Worship Team chair and Lay Leader. Gina is a retired educator having served as a teacher and administrator for 34 years. She is married with 2 adult children and 2 grandchildren.
